Former Ball State student arrested for on-campus rape

A former Ball State student was arrested Wednesday after police say he raped a female in an on-campus residence hall last fall. 


Maxwell Charron, 19, of New Haven, Indiana, was arrested on a warrant by the Allen County Sheriff’s office and booked into jail Sunday.

ChirpFest to refund tickets after promotion confusion

ChirpFest is issuing a full refund to each ticket purchased for the spring show “one by one." Several students bought tickets for the event in hopes of seeing Chance the Rapper, said organizers Darius Norwood and Chris Cammack.


“We want to apologize to the people,” Cammack said on behalf of the group.

Shooting victim remembered at vigil in downtown Muncie

It was a different scene at the Tuppee Tong Thai restaurant Saturday night than the scene Thursday afternoon when a Muncie teen was shot and killed. 


Friends, family and Muncie community members gathered outside of the downtown restaurant to remember Allayzia Jackson, the 17-year-old victim in Thursday's shooting.

Delaware County sheriff's deputy, wife arrested in drug probe

A Delaware County sheriff's deputy was arrested Thursday night after Muncie police drug enforcement agents served a search warrant at his home, according to a press release from the Delaware County sheriff's office.

Jerry Parks, 37, is preliminary charged with two counts of aiding, inducing or causing dealing heroin and marijuana, attempted dealing in marijuana and neglect of a dependent, according to court documents.

Muncie sees large spike in heroin overdose

In recent days, the Muncie Police Department Narcotics Unit has been investigating a large spike of heroin overdoses.

Sgt. Scott O’Dell of the narcotics unit said that random spikes in overdoses is most commonly due to a bad batch of heroin brought into town.

Three dead after crash on North Wheeling Avenue

Three people are dead and two people are in the hospital after a crash near Gaston Tuesday afternoon. 

Emergency responders were called to Wheeling Avenue near Delaware County Road 950-N. around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Gov. Holcomb delivers second State of the State Address

Gov. Eric Holcomb gave his second State of the State Address Tuesday, where he outlined his goals and plans for the state in 2018. 

Holcomb said his focus for the year can be summed up in three words — "people, people, people."

North Walnut Street closed after accident

North Walnut Street between West Centennial and East Streeter avenues was closed after a Penske truck crashed into a utility pole Thursday. 

The Muncie Fire Department, Muncie Police Department, Muncie Sanitary District and Indiana and Michigan Power were on scene.

City of Muncie holds press conference on information requests

The city of Muncie held a press conference Friday to "clear up miscommunication" after a Star Press article published on Monday headlined, "City won't release details of legal fees."

The Star Press said that the city denied a Freedom of Information Act request about "information about the attorneys hired to defend the city and [Muncie Mayor Dennis] Tyler."
